Marx, Maitland, Gueldenzopf unbeaten at Redskin Inv.



SANDUSKY – Sandusky had two wrestlers a take first place in their respective weight classes at Saturday's Redskin Invitational wrestling tournament.

Junior Bernie Marx captured the title at 152 pounds by winning all five of his matches. He is now 15-0 on the season. Sophomore Erik Maitland won his first title of his career, winning all three of his matches at heavyweight and raising his record to 9-5. Meanwhile, sophomore Cody Gueldenzopf, in his first varsity competition, was 4-0 in his bracket of the 171 pound weight class.

Also for Sandusky, Clint Northrup was 2-1 in 171 A and tied for second place.

Marlette had one champion at the tournament. Tyler Steinkopf was 3-0 in his bracket at 145 pounds.. He then pinned Anthony Saccoia of Capac in 3:58 to remain unbeaten on the day. Saccoia had won the first place medal in the 145 A bracket.

The Raiders also had 3-1 records from Stuart Endres at 119 and Justin Shaver at 135.
