Local News PUBLISHED:
The hearing was scheduled on Monday at 2 p.m. in Huron County Circuit Court in Bad Axe before Judge Richard Knoblock. However, on Friday afternoon the court was notified the hearing was off, the file should be returned to Sanilac County Circuit Court, and that Kelke was moving to Florida, said court reporter Mary Jo Risch. Kelke could not be reached for comment, and the police chief declined comment. Meanwhile, the Sanilac County prosecutor has requested additional information from Port Sanilac police before deciding whether to issue criminal charges against Kelke. The Port Sanilac man was arrested outside a village council meeting on Dec. 12, after he allegedly assaulted a police officer. According to a press release by the council following the incident, the arrest occurred while the council was meeting to hear citizen complaints against police officers. In his request for the P.P.O., Kelke claimed his problems with the police chief began last spring when he built a fence on his property and neighbors complained about it. Kelke claimed Jaskowski threatened to arrest him several times, and when he tried to enter the council meeting on Dec. 12 after receiving a letter from the village president, he was assaulted by the chief and other officers. The village council decided on Dec. 18 to take no disciplinary action against the officers. |
