"We also want all churches to come together regardless of the denomination and work together," he added. The Croswell Wesleyan Church, Valiant Ministries of Croswell and St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Lexington have already joined the campaign. "People come in off the street after looking at our sign (about the fundraiser). When I saw the response just to our sign, I thought if we could replicate that throughout the county," Marengo stated. He said Sharon Nurenberg, one of the Trinity's members, was impressed by a local business's response. "She was shopping for something for Noah's Ark and went to Family Farm & Feed on M-19 in Sandusky. She had a list and a clerk asked if she could help her find something. So she told her what it was about. When she got to the counter they had carts overflowing with food, dog collars, etc. They gave over $100 worth of food," Marengo said. For the time being the group has enough storage space for the pet food at the church, and Marengo said they hope to have the problem of finding more storage later. He has applied for a $500 grant from the Episcopal Convocation to help pay for the large tubs to leave at churches, schools and business for donations, as well as for advertising, postage, gas, etc. They want donations of dry and canned cat and dog food, puppy and kitten chow, pet treats and toys, clumping cat litter, dog collars, antibacterial liquid cleaners, laundry detergent, bleach, antibacterial hand soap, paper towers, OUST unscented spray, and 30 gallon Hefty or Glad trash bags. Cash is always welcome, as are volunteers at the Humane Society shelter in Carsonville. If you have want to help contact Marengo at 810-404-3415 or Fr. Rick Schark of Trinity Episcopal at 810-359-8741. |
