They are going to use the low interest Qualified Zone Academy Bonds to obtain and install energy conservation, safety and building improvements.

The QZAB used to be interest free, but are now at about 1.5%.

Superintendent Martha Essenmacher said the some of the energy projects have already been started and will include:

*Replacing the heating units at the high school to end on-going repairs and costly climate issues.

*Replacing all the high school lighting with full-spectrum lights, which are easier on the eyes and more energy efficient.

*Replacing the hot water heater at the elementary building.

*Tightening the envelope on all the buildings to reduce heat loss to the outside.

*Repairing the elementary roof to prevent leaks, fix the heating system and improve air exchange.

*Installing new propeller fans in the high school gym to improve air circulation and reduce noise.

*Improve water conservation with low flush toilets and new aerators in the sinks, as well as other minor projects.

Essemacher said the teaching staff has been very good about working with the mess that sometimes is left in the building during renovations.
