Sports PUBLISHED:
Both head coaches were happy to be playing outside so early in the season, but the weather conditions, with a sharp northeast wind, could have been more forgiving. "Considering the weather conditions, we did okay," said CPS coach Bill Sarkella. "It's hard to stay focused, though, when you're frozen." Jaime Nicol, Sandusky's new coach, added, "We've got a lot of things to work on, but playing in that cold is not fun." In the opener, DeMott, a senior, fired a two-hitter and fanned nine CPS batters. Amy Paape paced the batting attack with two hits, including a double. Maddie Hale had a triple and Monica Chambers added a double. For CPS, Jordan Alexander and Jessica Solis had the only hits, both singles. In game two, the Lady Tigers scored nine times in the first two innings and held on for the win. Solis sparked a 12-hit attack by going 3-for-4. Jodi Hammond drove in two runs with a pair of singles and Erica Christy, Sam McCarty, and Kelly DeLong each had two hits. Danielle Karr was the winning pitcher. The Lady ÔSkins had four singles from Lauren Hale, a double and single from Melanie Ball, and two singles from Chambers. |
