James Metz, 58, of Worth Township, spent 28 years as a prosecuting attorney with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

There are now four candidates for the district court judgeship -- Sandusky attorneys Greg Ross and Dennis Reid, and County Family Court Friend of Court-Referee David Myers. Incumbent Judge James Marcus is not running for re-election.

The field will be narrowed to two after the August Primary ballot, and those will compete in the November general election.

"I have investigated and tried literally thousands of cases. My full commitment to fairness has developed my careful regard for thoroughly investigating cases to protect those charged, while also being extremely sensitive to the victims of wrongdoing. By experiencing a lifetime of courtroom practice I am uniquely qualified to become district judge," said Metz.

He also spent four years working for the Michigan Supreme Court's attorney ethics unit, the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission. This unit investigates and prosecutes complaints of ethical misconduct against members of the state bar throughout Michigan.

"My qualifications will serve our citizens with distinction prove me to be a credit to the bench," Metz stated.

He has lived in Worth Township for the past 10 years. Metz has served on the Township Planning Commission for five years, and is chairman of the Worth Township Zoning Board of Appeals.

Metz graduated from the University of Detroit Law in 1973. He is the father of five children. One son is a prosecuting attorney and one is a deputy sheriff.
