Sandusky continues city manager search

The city of Sandusky wants to see if there are more candidates out there for city manager.

"We're going to re-post for city manager," said Councilwoman Virginia Bissett, chairperson of the city's personnel committee.

The committee met Monday evening to discuss the next step in the search, after learning that one of two finalists for the job, Harbor Beach City Administrator Tom Youatt, has accepted a position in northern Michigan.

Bissett said the Sandusky Council may still schedule a second interview with the other finalist, former Vassar city manager Kevin Mackey, but in the meantime the vacancy will be posted with college placement sites statewide. College alumni, in addition to recent graduates, check the sites, she noted.

"We want to see if there's more -- who else might be out there at this time," she stated.

The city received 23 applications the first time it advertised the position, and narrowed the field to Youatt and Mackey. Officials are searching for a replacement for Lou LaPonsie, whose resignation as manager is effective May 16.

The city council will discuss on May 19 how to cover the manager's duties until a new administrator is hired, Bissett stated.
