While his team is looking to challenge for the third spot at Regionals, a very reachable goal lies ahead at the BWAC meet. Cros-Lex finished behind a powerful Almont team in league duals and tied with Richmond for second place. "Our goal (Tuesday) is to fight hard and finish ahead of Richmond," said Lippenga. "I really, honestly think that if we go into it with our minds set to play well, we can finish ahead of Richmond. That would mean we'd finish with a very solid second place." At the Regional, the top two teams automatically qualify for State. Also, anyone scoring 18 points will move on. "Marysville and St. Clair are definitely the top two," Lippenga noted. "After that it's a matter of getting the points -- the 18 points -- to qualify. "Marysville has really come along. They've had a rebuilding year and did a tremendous job. And, St. Clair is good," added Lippenga, who also said Richmond will be at the Mt. Clemens regional.. In Singles play, Cros-Lex is led at No. 1 by sophomore Kaitlyn Quinn, who has faced the best-of-the-best all season long. Junior Kaitlyn Trump (No. 4) has the best record of the other starters in singles play with an 11-4 mark this spring. Sarah Furness (No. 2) and Lesley Sly (No.3), also underclassmen, are 8-6 and 9-5, respectively. The No. 3 Doubles tandem of Meagan Semeyn and Tone Guevara, both juniors, have an 11-3 record this season. Melissa Romanowski/Jecinta Wait (No. 1) are 7-6 on the season and Anna Delie/Sarah Grout (No. 3), two of the few seniors, are 9-4. |
