Bc softball: Lady Devils go unbeaten in East play

Greene tosses no--hitter against HB


BROWN CITY -- Brown City wrapped up a perfect season in GTC East softball on Friday by taking a pair of games from Harbor Beach, 2-0 and 5-1. The Lady Green Devils, a co--champ last year, won the East with a 12-0 mark.

Sophomore Kristen Greene had a big hand in both victories for BC. She threw her second no-hitter of the season in the opener, striking out six. In the nightcap, she threw a three-hitter and fanned eight, but also led the hitting attack with a home run, and a double.

The Lady Devils had just two hits in the first contest, both from Cheryl Smith, who drove in one of the two runs. Emalee Diller had the other RBI.

In game two, Krislene Dye added two singles and an RBI.

"Overall, I thought these games were important, defensively, for us," said BC coach Erin Snyder. "I thought we had a great defensive night against a tough Harbor Beach team."

The Lady Green Devils will host North Branch in a non--league doubleheader this Thursday. They will face Memphis in as Division 3 Pre-District game at home on Tues., May 27. The winner advances to the Districts on Sat., May 31 in Brown City.

The Lady Devils lifted their record to 28-2 on Monday with a sweep of Dryden in non--league action. Greene was the winning pitcher in both games, giving up a total of four hits and striking out 20.
BC had 19 hits in the two games, three, including a triple, coming from Dye in the opener. Smith added three RBI in that contest. In game two, Sandi Oligney had a triple and two RBI, Jamie Clark had a pair of doubles, and Ashleigh Blovsky thumped a double and drove in three runs.
