Quintano breaks hit record at CPS



It was a little over a week ago that Matt Quintano made baseball history at CPS.

The Tiger senior collected his 98th career hit at the Akron-Fairgrove tournament and now holds the school-record, surpassing Eric Regnier's old mark of 97. Through Monday night, Quintano has 33 hits this season and is batting .393 He added to his record with three hits, including two doubles and a triple, in an NCTL twinbill sweep of Akron-Fairgrove Monday.

"Matt, basically, is a baseball player. He's fundamentally sound and has a quick bat," praised CPS coach Dave VanDyke.. "And, this year, he's played everywhere for us. He's 7-3 as a pitcher plus he plays short and second. He even catches. He does whatever asked."

The Tigers, at home Monday, topped the Vikings 10-0 and 12-2 to close out the NCTL South season at 11-7. They are 17-11 overall.

Todd Albrecht and Matt Monzo were the winning pitchers in the games with A-F. Chad Turcott and Colin Dunlap had two hits apiece in the nightcap.
