Kenneth Queen's scheduled plea hearing in Lapeer County Circuit Court on May 28 was cancelled at the request of the defense attorney. The case is set for trial on July 31, with a final pretrial hearing tentatively scheduled on July 17. The jury trial will be held in Sanilac County Circuit Court before Lapeer Circuit Judge Nick O. Holowka.

Queen faces two criminal charges in connection with the June 24, 2007 crash that injured David and Carole Stieler of Marlette. The husband and wife were riding a motorcycle that collided with a car allegedly driven by Queen, on M-53 and French Line Road in Sanilac County's Marlette Township.

Queen is charged with failing to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident, and failing to report an accident.

The Marlette man is also one of two defendants named in lawsuit filed by the Stielers. The couple is seeking unspecified monetary damages against Queen and the alleged owner of the car, Darci Lynn Eagle of Marlette.

Sanilac Circuit Judge Donald Teeple disqualified himself from hearing both the criminal and civil cases because Carole Stieler is an employee of his court.
