Sports PUBLISHED:
Rickett, a 5'6" guard who will play at Concordia University this next season, tossed in a game-high 20 points and was named the game's MVP. She connected on a career-high four three-pointers, including one in the late going to put her team on top. "She just caught fire. She really got hot," said Sandusky coach Al DeMott, who, along with Rich Lee of Capac, directed the West squad. "She's been playing a lot, I think, and that helped." The four triples were more than Rickett had all season for Sandusky, which went 20-0 in the regular season and 23-1 overall. "She's capable," added DeMott, "and, she played both ends of the floor." The East team, led by St. Clair's strong duo of Brittany Carnago and Stacey Farrell, jumped away to a 42-31 lead by halftime. Twenty-three of the team's points came from those two, plus Harbor Beach's Rhonda Gusa. Rickett connected on three triples and Port Huron Northern's Rachel Meharg added a pair in the second half to lead the rally. Meharg finished with 12 points, all on shots from beyond the arc. Allison DeMott and Bobbie May, also from Sandusky, added four and two points, respectively. "We seemed to play really well when all three were in the game together," DeMott said of his trio of Redskin players. "Actually, all the Sanilac County kids represented the county well." For the East, Carnago and Farrell had 12 and 10 points and Gusa added 10. Deckerville's Malorie Machart scored four points, Peck's Kristan Fletcher had three, and CPS's Erica Christy added two. Todd Christy of CPS helped coach the East team. |
