Detective Brian Ferguson from the Sandusky Post confirmed he is investigating Med-Control Executive Director John Turner for false pretenses charges. He was asked to check into the issue on June 18.

At the July 9 Board of Commissioners' meeting, Commissioner James Ruby, who sits on the Med-Control Board, stated the board has hired an auditor. Ruby said they met with the auditor July5 and plan to hear his report next week.

The Sanilac County Medical Control Authority suspended Turner effective June 11.

According to a press release from the Authority, the suspension will be in effect until the completion of an audit to explore certain financial decisions that need to be clarified.

The Medical Control Authority, which handles the coordination of ambulance services in the county, is funded by 2/10 of a mill. The millage was last approved in August 2004 for a four-year period and brought in $255,500 last year.

The agency has also received two substantial grants.

They received a three-year grant for $600,000 in May 2005 to assist the agency in retaining volunteers and EMS employees. The $370,000 grant for education and training expired in August 2006.

The agency, which is state mandated, is charged with developing and implementing treatment plans for patients; doing quality evaluations to see that the plans are followed; and evaluations to determine the adequacy of the ambulance services.
