Former Sandusky man named National Coaching Education president



ALLENDALE - Rick Albrecht, professor and coaching education coordinator at Grand Valley State University was recently elected President of the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education. The Council sets standards for coaching programs throughout the country and encourages continuous improvement in the quality of coaching at all levels.

Dr. Albrecht previously served as head of the organization's national accreditation panel and helped write the current National Standards for Sport Coaches. During he past year he has written a weekly sports column for the Grand Rapids Press on issues related to youth sports and is completing a book entitled "Lies Your Coaches Told You...and You Keep Telling Yourself and Others."

Albrecht holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, a master's degree in counseling psychology, a second master's degree in sport s psychology and a doctorate in sports psychology, all from Michigan State University. He held faculty appointments in the College of Human Medicine and the Department of Kinesiology at MSU before accepting his current position at GVSU.

A 1970 graduate of Sandusky High School, Rick is the son of Bonnie and the late Mick Albrecht of Port Sanilac. He and his wife Andrea, a professor at Western Michigan University, live in Grand Haven.
