Port Sanilac raises water rates



PORT SANILAC -- The Village Council has approved increases to the water fees.

Residential water rates were raised by $20 per quarter to $196. The cabins and motels rate went up $1.25 per first 2500 gallons per quarter to $8.25. The other commercial rate increases are: $1.50 per first 5000 gallons per quarter to $17.50; $1.05 per next 10,000 gallons per quarter; $1.13 per next 15,000 gallons per quarter to $12.38; and $2.95/ over 50,000 gallons per quarter to $32.45. The rates of $15/ next 20,000 gallons per quarter and $50 up to 50,000 gallons per quarter remained the same.

In other business, the council adopted their 2008-2009 budget, which will take effect July 1.

The budget calls for revenues and expenditures of $401,900, which is pretty much the same as last year, according to President Andy Fabian.

The charter operating millage, which is currently at 7.7646 mills, brings in $246,620. The village collects $28,660 from the community center millage and the Downtown Development Authority; $39,700 from the local street millage and DDA; and $86,920 from the sewer millage and DDA.

The largest expenditure is for the Department of Public Works at $101,591. The second biggest expenditure is for the sewer at $86,920, with law enforcement third at $82,480. The DDA receives $33,450, the community center $28,660 and they spend $17,099 on fire operating.

They renewed the Provident Insurance Policy for Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance for the firefighters at a cost of $1,784 for three years to be taken from the fire operations budget.
