Road Commission Engineer-Manager Robb Falls reported Albrecht Sand & Gravel is planning on starting the Bay City-Forestville Road project after they complete their work in Huron County.

The six mile stretch from Polk Road to M-19 is part of the state's Jobs Today Program, which is using future federal funds to jump-start road improvement projects.

The company has already paved sections of Bay City ÐForestville from M-53 west to the county line, Parisville and Ruth Roads.

Falls told the road commission last week the eight miles of Bay City-Forestville between M-53 and M-19 is actually in worse condition, but some work needs to be done on the road before it can be re-paved next year.

"It met federal guidelines 30 years ago. Now it needs an update before we can proceed," he stated. They can obtain Jobs Today funds as long as the project is bid before next April.

In other business, another township is making use of the road commission's match money for paving.

The road commission offers to match up to $25,000 per year on re-surfacing or pavement projects on township roads.

Last week they approved giving Marlette Township two years worth of match money this year to re-surface approximately 1 1/2 miles of Butler Road from Cotter Road to Marlette Road.

"They looked at the prices they received and came back like Evergreen (Township) and talked about additional work," said Fall. "Joyce (Hagan, accountant) and I talked and we feel comfortable. We can take it and pay it out of our money. It's not like we've got extra, but the way prices are going up on asphalt, it will cover our costs."

He said it will cost the township about $41,000 for Butler Road so they will have the remaining $9,000 for paving work next year. That amount of money could cover so asphalt patching.

Marlette Township Supervisor Kirk Dale explained local citizens use Butler Road as part of the by-pass around the city, and the (over a mile) section from Lynd Road to Cotter is in the worst condition.

*They accepted the two bids on re-surfacing and shoulder widening for 3.2 miles of M-25. The state will award to the low bidder, Albrecht Sand & Gravel for $471,684.

Falls said the state wants to pave an additional three foot of the shoulder from the south village limits of Port Sanilac to Holverson Road for a bike path, because there is some safety money available. He is not sure they will do the entire stretch, it depended on how the bids came in. The project will be completed this fall.

*Shop Foreman R. J. Henderson reported they are losing their pickups one by one.

He said they have two pickups out of service and the pickups they will replace them with are not in much better shape. The 1992 is rusting out and has 250,756 miles on it and the transmission is going out on the1990.

"Do we have enough to maybe purchase another two," asked Chairman Harold Donaghy.

"No," said Hagan.
