State police from the Sandusky Post investigated the personal injury accident that occurred Monday around 7:30 p.m. on Snover Road just east of Goetze Road.

According to police, the 16-year-old male driver was east bound in a 1995 Mercury 4-door when he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. The driver lost control on the gravel surface, crossed the west bound lane, left the road, and struck a ditch-bank causing the car to overturn and strike a tree.

Seatbelts were worn and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The car sustained extensive damage. Major factors in the crash appeared to be driver inexperience. Injuries appeared to be minimized by seatbelt use.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Port Sanilac Fire and Rescue, Deckerville EMS and Active Towing. The names of the driver and his eight-year-old male passenger were not released.
