Local News PUBLISHED:
The DTF and the sheriff department's canine unit executed the search warrant following tips that marijuana was being sold in one-ounce and larger quantities, and after undercover officers made several purchases from the suspect. During the initial search, authorities recovered 15 one-ounce bags of marijuana, two one-half ounce bags of marijuana and 46 hydrocodone tablets from a bathroom. The suspect, who was present during the raid, led officers to a second location where there were digital scales, a small quantity of pot and $1,230 in suspected drug sale proceeds. Meanwhile, the sheriff department's drug dog, Kay, led Deputy Sheriff Greg Barker to a locked storage shed on the property. After the suspect unlocked the building, officers found one pound of bulk processed marijuana stored in a gallon size zipped lock bag. The bag was inside a sealed Tupperware container stored inside a larger sealed Tupperware type storage box. Altogether, authorities seized more than 31 ounces of processed pot with a street value of $8,715 if sold in one-eighth ounce quantities at $35 each. The hydrocondone tablets, known by the brand names Vicodin and Lortab, are sold on the street for $5 in Sanilac County. The suspect, whose age and gender were not released, was not arrested at the scene but will be charged later with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana second offense - all felonies. Other suspects may be involved as well. According to Gray, the suspect was selling the marijuana in one-ounce, quarter pound and larger quantities to dealers who were "turning around and selling it at the street level" in smaller amounts. "This person is basically a supplier of street level dealers for Sanilac and Huron counties. We hope to do more on that portion as the investigation continues." Suspected drug activity can be reported anonymously by calling 800-544-DRUG.
