Local News PUBLISHED:
The 33-year-old male yelled to the woman if she wanted to have sex, and chased her for about a hundred yards, said Biniecki. The woman was within about five yards of the man when she first spotted him, and "she just...turned on the after-burners and... ran away from him," said Biniecki. The man pulled on his pants as he ran after her, but apparently quit the chase after about a hundred yards and ran up the hill to his motor vehicle in the roadside park. Meanwhile, the woman used a two-way radio to call relatives for help as she sprinted down the beach and up the steps. The relatives, who have a summer cottage about a half-mile away, responded to the scene within minutes. They spotted the male subject leaving in a black sports utility vehicle, and reported the license plate number and vehicle description to central dispatch. The woman was "pretty scared" but was not injured, said the undersheriff. Sheriff's deputies Jim Leen and Shelly Park were responding to the scene when they spotted the SUV traveling west on Deckerville Road. They stopped the vehicle at Reinelt Road in Wheatland Township without incident. The Snover man was questioned by the officers and taken into custody. He was transported to the Sanilac County Jail where he was questioned further by Detective Mark Ruggles and Deputy Park. The suspect did not give a reason for his actions, Ruggles said. There was no indication of alcohol or drug use, the detective stated. Deputy Leen and Sgt. Charlene Washkevich gathered evidence at the crime scene and interviewed witnesses and the victim. The man was released on bond and is scheduled for arraignment in 73rd District Court on Aug. 27 on charges of felony assault with intent to make sexual contact, and indecent exposure. His name was not released pending arraignment. |
