Organizer Dennis Reid of Sandusky said a total of 1651 names had been submitted to the county clerk's office for verification as of Aug. 24. The signatures have been collected by 13 of the more than 60 circulators in the countywide effort. More than 750 copies of the petition have been distributed since the drive began in early August.

Supporters of the effort to force the County Board of Commissioners to put the $16.6 million jail project on the ballot have until Sept. 14 to submit 2,942 names to the clerk's office.

"Based upon my conversations with some of the other circulators, I believe we will have the required signatures within the next 10 to 14 days," said Reid.

The Sandusky attorney urged circulators to their submit signed petitions to the clerk's office for verification this week, and to continue collecting signatures until the Sept. 14th deadline.
