Local News PUBLISHED:
Benish told them one of the county's large manufacturers is deciding whether to expand, and if they expand whether to do it in Sanilac County. He said the state offered to pay for road expansion if the county will pick up the cost for sewer and water expansion. The money would be a grant, not a loan, he emphasized. Benish said he couldn't give the commissioners any details on the name of the firm or its location. That kind of information is confidential until the company makes an announcement about their plans. He said the revolving loan fund had $233,000 in it as of June 30, and Administrator John Males said he did not know the current total but it is over $200,000. The revolving loan fund is state money that the then EDC controlled until last year, when the commissioners took it over. It is to be used for grants or loans to help economic development. The last time the revolving loan was tapped for a large sum was when the commissioners made the EDC help pay for sewers in Snover in order to keep a local manufacturer. The EDC had wanted to spend the money on surveys to determine which kind of industries would be a good fit for the county. |
