"Lucky mom. It could have been a different outcome," said State Police Sgt. Barbara Soffin at the Sandusky Post.

According to police, the mother, Sooner Hoist, 23, of Deckerville was south bound on N. Sandusky Road when she attempted to pass another vehicle. Hoist lost control on loose gravel and ran off the roadway into a ditch where the car overturned.

The investigating officer, Trooper Andy Pflaum, reported the 3-year-old was sitting in a child car seat but was not strapped in, according to Soffin.

The youngster, his 5 month-old brother and the mother were treated at the scene by Sanilac EMS. The 3-year-old was not taken to the hospital, Soffin stated.

Hoist was ticketed for a child car seat violation and for violating the basic speed law.

Alcohol was not considered a factor in the accident that occurred around 5:25 p.m. near Snover Road.
