Bressman's 866 sets MTBA record!

The story of the week, and maybe of the 2007-08 bowling season, is about what happened in a usually low-keyed Friday night mixed league at Liberty Lanes. It's a league that has some nice competition but has a lot more fun.

Jake Bressman put all of that together and more, torching the lanes for a record-setting 866 series on games of 277-289-300. If you're counting, that's 33 out 36 possible strikes. Bressman, a Cros-Lex High grad who now lives in Brown City, set a new three-game series record in the Mid Thumb Bowling Association, eclipsing Del Shea's mark of 865 by one pin

"I had my family there and my friend Jason (McIvor) and the next thing I know I had a pretty good series going," said Bressman on the start of the series on what is usually just a routine night out for mixed league bowlers. "I had that 277, but I wasn't paying too much attention to it until the end."

The 23-year-old, who started out bowling as a youngster in the youth leagues at Kautz Shore Lanes, knew he had something going in game two with the first 10 strikes. A solid 10-pin in the 11th made Bressman settle for the 289.

There were no other glitches. His 300 to finish was his third of his career. He also had two previous 800 series (803, 814).

"I've had the 300s and the two 800s, but never in the same set," remarked Bressman, who has a 225 average in the mixed league. Along with bowling with Amber Lee, his girl friend, and Bart and Dana Lee, Amber's parent's, in the Liberty Lanes league, he also bowls at Lakeview Lanes on Monday nights and subs in a league in Port Huron.

He added that he was surprised to do so well. "Especially, since it was only the second week of the season, at least, in this league."

By the way, Jason McIvor couldn't quite match his buddies' score, shooting a paltry 725 (279).
