Man dies, several hurt in crashes



EVERGREEN TWP. ĐAn elderly Burton man died and a Croswell man is in critical condition following a crash at the Deckerville - Decker Road intersection Friday afternoon. And several others were injured in two other accidents.

According to state police from the Sandusky Post, Dale Woodruff, 87, was north bound on Decker Road when he failed to stop at the intersection at 4:01 p.m.. His 2004 Chevy pickup collided with an eastbound 2002 Buick driven by James Goline, 36.

Both vehicles left the road, crossed a ditch and came to rest in the field.

Investigating troopers said both drivers were unresponsive at the scene. Both vehicles also sustained extensive damage.

Woodruff was transported to Hills and Dales Hospital in Cass City, where he died two hours later. Goline was flown by Survival Flight to Hurley Hospital in Flint, where he was in critical condition on Monday morning.

The crash remains under investigation.

The troopers were assisted by Cass City EMS, Marlette EMS, Argyle Fire Department, U of M Survival Flight and state police crash investigators from Lapeer and Saginaw.

Three Port Sanilac residents were injured on Saturday night when their 1996 Jaguar blew the stop sign at Applegate Road and M-25.

According to investigating state police troopers, Todd Patterson, 28, was headed east on Applegate Road at 9:50 p.m. when he failed to stop at the T- intersection. The car crossed the intersection at a high rate of speed, hitting several trees and a chain link fence in front of an apartment complex.

Patterson was taken to Port Huron Hospital with internal injuries and was in fair condition Monday morning.

Rear seat passenger Michael Carion, 52, who sustained serious injuries was in critical condition at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw on Monday.

Front seat passenger Gina Brothers, 44 was treated and released from Port Huron Hospital.

According to the police report, high speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash, and it was apparent none of them were wearing seat belts. The car sustained extensive front end damage.

Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

Troopers from the Sandusky Post were assisted by Croswell EMS, Port Sanilac Fire and Rescue, Lexington Police Department, Gary's Towing and a state police crash investigator from Lapeer.

Late Saturday night a Burtchville man was injured in a motorcycle accident in Worth Township.

Central Dispatch received a 911 call about 11:56 p.m. from a passerby who reported a motorcycle accident on Black River Road between Burns Line and Mortimer Line roads.

According to the sheriff department's report, James Thompson, 53, was apparently south bound on Black River Road when he drove off the roadway in the north bound lane on the curve. He lost control and hit trees south of the road. Thompson was located a few feet from his bike. He was wearing a helmet.

No information was available about where Thompson was transported.

The crash is under investigation, but police believe alcohol was a factor. They also think another motorcyclist witnessed the crash. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Deputy Otto Kutach at 810-648-2000 or 800-881-5911.
