"Today was an outstanding day," remarked Russ Reitz, Brown City coach, who took the team to State a year ago. "Six out of our seven runners had a personal-best, and the runner who missed a PR missed by only three seconds. A season of hard work paid off. I am very proud of them." Freshman Matt Proctor and junior Andrew Tidrick led the way for the Devils. Proctor was third overall with a time of 17:49.3 while Tidrick was next in 17.49.9. The next three finishers for BC were Jesse Williams (14th, 18:13), Matt DeSchutter (19th, 18:40), and Jack McPhail (29th, 19:19). Brown City will run in the Division 4 Finals this Saturday at MIS Speedway near Jackson. Trio of girls move on Marlette's Chelsea Mata and Brown City's Katherine Kreiner and Katie Takacs will all be going to the State Finals at MIS. Mata, a senior, was 11th in the girls Division 3 race at Bad Axe, finishing in a time of 20:55.3. Freshman Sarah Smith of the Raiders finished 16th (20:59.3), just one spot from qualifying for State. Meanwhile, in the Division 4 run, Kreiner was 11th in 21:44.2 and Takacs was 12th in 21:49.1. Both are sophomores. |
