Local News PUBLISHED:
Redman paid his $100 filing fee at the county clerk's office last Thursday, to have his name placed on the August 2008 primary ballot. Redman, a Republican from the Sandusky area, is the first candidate to make it official. The former Sanilac jail administrator expected to have competition, although not from his former boss. Sheriff Virgil Strickler has announced last week he won't run for a sixth term. Redman said he would make an announcement of his candidacy later. Port Sanilac Police Chief Rod Jaskowski said Monday he is seriously considering a run for sheriff, and stopped short of an announcement. "My thoughts are that it is time for a change," said Jaskowski, a former Sanilac County sheriff's deputy for seven years and police chief since 2004. "If the people of Sanilac County decided I am the person for that office, I can assure it would not be business as usual. It will be the end to a Ôgood ole boys' club.'" Deckerville Police Chief Tim Torp said he will file for sheriff after the first of the year. Torp became chief in Deckerville five years ago, after he retired from the Sanilac Sheriff department. Garry Biniecki, the Sanilac County undersheriff, and Jeff Dawson, ambulance director and former police chief in Croswell are also possible candidates. Dawson said he's been considering a run for sheriff for a few years but hasn't made a decision. |
