Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in the crash that occurred on North Sandusky Road near Eddy Road on Nov. 23 at around 11:16 p.m., said Sgt. Robert Willis of the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.

The preliminary investigation indicated Tanya Renee Gentry was northbound on N. Sandusky Road, near Eddy Road, behind another vehicle, when her S-10 pickup apparently "drifted" across the centerline, said Willis.

The pickup struck a southbound minivan driven by Kami Lyn Kollman, 33, of Painesville, OH. The third vehicle that was ahead of the S-10 was not involved in the crash.

Gentry was trapped in the pickup until she was freed by the Sandusky Fire Department's Jaws of Life. She was taken to McKenzie Memorial Hospital in Sandusky, and later transferred to Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw for treatment of injuries initially listed as critical.

Kollman and three family members, James Henry Kollman, 23, and Brianna Leigh Niznik, 14, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
