Local News PUBLISHED:
There's only one official candidate to date: Mike Redman, a Sandusky area resident who's the police chief in Yale and a retired lieutenant from the Sanilac County Sheriff Department. Redman has filed as a Republican for the Aug. 2008 Primary Election. Other people who have said they're thinking about running include Undersheriff Garry Biniecki, Deckerville Police Chief Tim Torp, Port Sanilac Police Chief Rod Jaskowski, and Croswell EMS chief Jeff Dawson. Sheriff Virgil Strickler has announced he won't run for re-election. Like other possible candidates, Hall stated he'll make his decision known run after the new year. "So many people came to me, I am seriously considering it," said the 54-year-old chief. "I'll see what my support is. I'll make a decision the first of the year. I'm leaning that way -that I'll run. A lot of (things) can be done to the sheriff department. I think I'm capable of making those changes," he said, citing use of manpower and employee morale as example. Hall, who also ran for sheriff about 20 years ago, became police chief five years ago, after serving 28 and 1/2 years in the sheriff department, where he started as a deputy sheriff and rose to the rank of detective-sergeant. He and his wife, JoAnn, CEO of McKenzie Memorial Hospital in Sandusky, reside in Croswell. |
