William Rich, 45, was arraigned Monday in 73rd District Court on felony charges of delivery-manufacture cocaine less than 50 grams and delivery-manufacture marijuana, and a misdemeanor - violation of license restriction.

Rich was first arrested Nov. 29, when he and another Carsonville man, 46, were under surveillance by the Sanilac County Drug Task Force on tips they were driving to Detroit to allegedly buy cocaine and marijuana.

DTF offices confirmed the pair left Carsonville, drove to a suspected drug distribution area on East Grand Blvd. in Detroit, and were returning to Sanilac County on M-19

The pair were stopped by a marked sheriff department unit assigned to DTF at M-19 and Galbraith Line in Speaker Township. Authorities seized three grams of suspected crack cocaine and 20 grams of suspected pot from the 46-year-old driver, and nine grams of suspected powder cocaine from Rich.

The pair were lodged in the County Jail and released on bond pending warrants and an arraignment date.

On Dec. 14, DTF officers observed Rich driving to a suspected drug trafficking area on Mt. Elliot in Detroit and returning to Sanilac County.

When Rich arrived at the intersection of Bricker and Gailbraith Line roads in Fremont Township, he was intercepted by a marked sheriff's vehicle assigned to DTF.

A search of the 1998 Chrysler convertible he was driving revealed six grams of suspected cocaine and 22 grams of suspected pot hidden in the engine compartment.

Drug Task Force officers were assisted in the two cases by sheriff's deputies Greg Barker and Mike Moore, Officer Russ Nowiski of the Peck Police Department, Carsonville police and the St. County Drug Task Force.

Suspected drug activity in Sanilac County can be reported anonymously to 1-800-544-DRUG (3784).
