ISD board appoints new member



An Elk Township woman has filled a vacancy on the Sanilac Intermediate Board of Education.

Debbie Dhooghe, 39, will serve until the next board election in May 2009, at which time she can apply for the remaining two years on the unexpired term of the late Marvin Longuski of Peck. Lunguski died last month..

Dhooghe and her husband, Jim, own Johnston's Meat Processing in Elk Township near Peck. They have four children, ages 8 to 16, including one who receives special education services through the ISD. She has also been involved with the biotechnology and FFA program at the Career Center, which is operated by the ISD. She is also active in the community, as the secretary-treasurer of the Sanilac County Food Pantry.

The ISD Board appointed Dhooghe to the seat last week, upon recommendation of the Peck Board of Education.

In other business, the board:

*Approved the hiring of a part-time social worker for the new program for emotionally impaired students in grades 7-12 at the Career Center.

*Approved the appointments of Kim Norton, Tom LeVasseur and John Bean from Sandusky to serve three year terms on the Parent Advisory Committee.

*Authorized Superintendent Dr. Tim Edwards to attend the Michigan Association of School Boards Winter Conference in Detroit at a cost of $586.
